Project Update: Automated separation of NdFeB magnets from waste electrical and electronic equipment scrap

For the purpose of detecting, identifying and locating magnetic material entailing rare earths in different applications such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and loudspeakers, RISE has developed a range of sensor systems and a magnetic scanner. This scanner has been shipped to Spain, where partner INSERMA will integrate it into an automated separation system including further steps such as a robotic sorting line.

Once ready, the holistic system will be scaled into a fully equipped sorting line to be integrated into the pilot in Birmingham, UK. As an additional, very practical feature, it will be placed into a container, making it easy to transport to further premises dealing with electrical and electronic waste.
